Mottershead to be MD of TUI UK
CHRIS Mottershead has been appointed managing director for TUIUK, the newly merged business of Thomson Holidays and Lunn Poly.
Mottershead, currently president and chief executive officer of Airtours’ North America Leisure Group, will run the UK tour operating and retail businesses. Parent company Preussag recently ditched the Thomson Travel Group name and merged the UK businesses under TUI UK, cutting 400 jobs as part of the restructure.
Mottershead is expected to start in a year’s time. He is currently based in Toronto. He will report to TUI Northern Europe chief executive Peter Rothwell, who was also his manager when he worked at Airtours Holidays. Rothwell said: “He will be in charge of key brand names and his directive will be to maximise the UK businesses. He was both finance director and managing director at Airtours and he achieved great things.”
Mottershead has spent two years in his current job and before that he was managing director of Airtours Holidays for two years.
No other redundancies are expected but the company is still in consultations over other positions.
