BRITISH Airways has seen its capacity fall by 11.5%
throughout January compared to January 2001.
Traffic fell by 6.9% affecting both the premium and
non-premium markets.
A statement issued by the airline said: “The improvements
seen in traffic in recent months have continued through January, despite the
ongoing economic weakness in many of our key markets. The revenue outlook
remains positive although yields are weak, driven by ongoing promotional
activity and the adverse mix of premium and non-premium traffic.”
The airline has also announced it is to work closely with
Dutch flag-carrier KLM on routes to the Middle East following a drop in demand
since the September 11 terrorist attacks on the US.
KLM will temporarily suspend flights from Amsterdam to
Muscat while BA will increase capacity to the destination. In return, BA will
suspend flights to Dammam in Saudi Arabia and KLM will pick up the route from
Amsterdam.
