CTO looks to Web technology

The Caribbean Tourism Organisation is looking at how best to utilise Internet technology to strengthen the region’s tourism – thanks to the European Union-funded Regional Internet Strategy Project.

Under the project, Internet activity for the CTO and a representative sample of its members will be studied as will current and planned use of Internet by both public and private sectors.

Although the CTO and its members already use the Internet as a marketing tool, competition from other destinations is stiff, with large investments in Internet-related technology and software.

The desired outcome is an Internet and Information Technology Regional Strategy recommendation, addressing the region’s major markets. It is scheduled for completion by mid-January 2000.
