THE US Department of Commerce has released figures showing
visitor numbers from the UK have reached pre-September 11 levels.
In the first three months of the year, there were 916,154 arrivals
from the UK. This figure is down 2% on the same period in 2001, although
visitor numbers at that time were already falling because of the weakness of
the pound against the dollar and slowing economy.
March 2002 marked the first month of positive gains since
August 2001.
The DoC claims that visitor numbers from the UK declined 27%
after the September 11 terrorist attacks.
