All flights out of Heathrow were temporarily suspended
today when two aircraft experienced technical
problems.
BAA said the airport’s northern runway was closed for 17 minutes
with the southern runway off-limits for three hours.
Operations are now back to normal, a BAA spokesman said.
KLM confirmed its Boeing 767-300, bound for Amsterdam, was
taxiing when the brakes on one of the jet’s wheels jammed on the
southern runway.
Passengers and crew were taken off the aircraft, which was
grounded for three hours while the problem was fixed.
Simultaneously, a Cathay Pacific aircraft’s wheel overheated and
caused a 17-minute closure of the northern runway.
