Costa Blanca (Alicante Province)
Torrevieja About a 30 minute drive south from Alicante airport it s primarily a tourist resort but is also famous for salt mining, the salt being exported worldwide from the nearby salt flats natural park of La mata and Torrevieja, The resort has good beaches, and infrastructure and is popular with many British who have second residencies in and around this area. Other resorts nearby include Santa Pola & Guardamar de Segura.
Playa de Albir A small resort close between benidorm & altea, with low rise buildings, a pebble beach and good infrastructure of bars, shops and restaurants. It is not known for wild nightlife. The sierra helada mountains is the scenic back drop of the resort offering great walks along the coastal mountain road to the lighthouse with great views.
Altea A chic resort, both for its bars & restaurants and unusual shops & boutiques, just 10 km from Benidorm. The dome of Altea’s church, is one of the symbolic images of the Costa Blanca. Altea is situated on a hill , the church & its plaza being the cultural and leisure centre of Altea. The Old Town has special charm with steep narrow cobble-stoned streets and is a paradise for artists and craftsmen. throughout the Old Town Centre. Altea also has a wide sea promenade, port and a pebble beach.
Calpe The Peñón de Ifach is the symbol of Calpe. It is the highest rock in the entire Mediterranean and divides Calpe’s shoreline in two. It is 332 metres high and penetrates 1 kilometre into the sea, forming a first-rate geological feature. It is a Natural Park and the summit of the rock can be visited in organised groups. There is also one of the best views of the Costa Blanca from the top of the rock. There are 11 kilometres of sandy beaches – and fishing port, with fish auctions in the afternoon.
Javea Is one of the most attractive resorts, and popular with many European ex pats and holidaymakers. A resort, bordered by sandy beaches and capes and protected by the Montgo mountains. It has 3 distinct areas, the old town centre (slightly inland originally to protect it from pirate attacks in the past) the port and the main resort/beach area Arenal. Aprox 40 minutes north of Benidorm. The varied coastal area has 25km of fine sandy blue flag beaches and rocky coves and cliffs. There are also some small caves, which can be accessed by boat.There are 14 great viewing points along the coves and capes of the area.
Dénia Denia is a resort with 35,000 inhabitants and is a historic maritime resort. It has a major port with daily ferry services via Balearia to Ibiza, crossings approx 4 hrs, fast ferry – 2 hours.
In the centre the prestigious Dénia castle, dating back to the XII century overlooks the town and is protected by the Montgo mountains. Various ethnological, toy and archaeological museums. A coastal train runs from Dénia to Alicante.
Dénia has 20km of coastal made up of 11 long sandy stretches and smaller rocky & sandy coves, north (14km) and south (4km) of the town (3 of them blue flag). Known locally as the Gastronomic capital of the Costa Blanca, for its quality and variety. The rice and fresh fish dishes are especially popular.
Valencia Terra i Mar (Valencia Province)
Oliva The areas has 10 km of sandy beaches & shallow waters bordered by sandy dunes separating the shore form the inland market gardens and orange orchards, the old town is well preserved with a “Christian” quarter and al older “morisco” quarter, the nearby Pego-Oliva marshlands nature park is an important wetland with abundant fauna and vegetation. There is a golf course and large marina here.
Gandia The broad beaches are the main tourist attraction of Gandia, as well as also having an ancient town centre with lots of history and nightlife.
The Nautical Club also stands out along with the sporting port, fishing and commercial ports, the promenade is full of hotels and attractions for all types of holidaymaker. Its beauty captivated one of the borgia popes who helped to incorporate the town into a mainstream of 15 century culture
Cullera Is a backdrop for both beaches and mountains, watersports, fishing, hiking, ancient monuments and modern nightlife. The old town is situated at the foot of the mountain and there are 15km of spectacular beaches and lagoons
Canet d’en Berenguer Canet is one of those towns has adapted itself to new eras without losing its marvellous and privileged environments. Its beaches or its fields which impregnates the town with orange blossom or its fantastic all year round temperature all go to make Canet an ideal place to live and enjoy.
Castellón Costa Azahar (Castellón Province)
There are several resorts in this province to the north of the region (north of Valencia) but are not so well know in the British market, some of the larger resorts include Benicàssim, Benicarlo, Alcossebre, Oropesa del Mar & Peñiscola amongst others.The nearest airports are either Valencia or Reus
Benicassim A traditional tourist resorts with 6knm of fine sandy beaches and protected by the winds by tall mountains with a complete hotel infrastructure, entertainment and sports facilities.
Oropesa del Mar Has a varied coastline with broad sandy beaches to the north ideal for water sports with its modern marina and cliffs and coves the south. The old town centre still preserves traces of an ancient Moorish castle, one of the fortresses occupied by El Cid wile winning this land back from the moors.
Peñiscola The castle of the Pope Pedro Luna (Benedict XIII) jutting out to sea is the emblem of the town of Peñiscola whose history reaches back to a past of knights in armour and stone fortresses. This popular resort has many hotels.
