Princess Cruises expands European programme

PRINCESS Cruises is offering its largest-ever European programme next year and has doubled the number of sailings from Southampton to the Mediterranean.

Princess’ Head of brand marketing Pieter van der Schee said the 2007 Mediterranean and Scandinavia programme had been released in response to the operator’s growth, which has seen its UK business double in the last two years.

He said: “Some of the growth has come from the overall growth in the cruise market in the UK but a lot of our customers are booking after overcoming their concerns that cruises are stuffy and full of old people.”

The growth in Southampton sailings means the European programme now offers 25 different itineraries with 78 departures and take in 93 ports.

Meanwhile, eight new land tours have been added to the 2007 Alaska, Canada and New England programme, taking the total to 36.

Van der Schee said: “Around 85% of our passengers in this programme choose a land tour option as well. Alaska is a long way to go and people want to make the most of the area once they’re there.”

Prices start at £249 for a four-day Alaskan land tour and includes accommodation at two different wilderness lodges although food is extra.
