Uganda has helped set up the ‘East Africa Community’ with neighbouring countries as it seeks greater exposure to visitors.
The country, along with Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, have pledged to work together to pool resources and encourage visitors to see two or more of the nations on trips.
James Bahinguza, Tourism Uganda’s general manager, said it was no mistake that all of the countries were next to each other at World Travel Market.
He said: “We want to develop east Africa as one destination and allow tourists to use one visa to visit the countries.”
Bahinguza also said that Uganda hosting the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting next year would put the spotlight on his country and it was already gearing up for the event with new infrastructure and improved hotels – actions which will also improve tourism. He also said stability in the country was returning and this would also help visitors.
