Virtual call centre to boost Thomson agents income – 29 Nov 2006

Thomson travel agents will be able to earn on £500 pounds a year extra through the company’s new virtual call centre.

The VCC has been rolled out to 375 travel agencies with three to five agents per store trained to take calls.

The system works out the best qualified agents logged on to take incoming calls, with agents divided into skill sets such as cruise and ski.

The idea is that agents log on to take calls when not busy with customers.

Head of commercial and retail operations Natalie Hufton said: “Agents on average will earn an extra £500 a year but the real test will be in January, during the peak booking period.”

She admitted the company was now looking at how to reduce backoffice work, as agents will potentially have more paperwork to complete as they are taking more bookings per day.
