Online health and safety management company Check Safety First hopes to sign up the first hotels for its new environmental module early next year.
The E-Cristal risk management and crisis prevention system is designed for managers of hotel to keep a track on health and safety audits on individual properties carried out by Check Safety First inspectors.
The new environment module covers areas such as energy consumption, water and waste management and ensuring there is an auditable trail of activities and reports.
Check Safety First says there is growing demand from hotel guests for this kind of information and the hotels that achieve E-Cristal standards will be included on its consumer website www.checksafetyfirst.com.
Chief executive Mark Harrington said: “The environment is working its way onto the corporate social responsibility agendas of more and more hotels and tour operators. But one of the main issues they face is dealing with the logistics and monitoring and managing the effectiveness of policies across the entire chain.
“Gaining and overview of environmental performance and being able to provide proof of the steps being taken to address the issue is going to be crucial for hoteliers in the future.”
