Camcorder - Thomson is using the latest technology to create digital hotel and resort videos for its websiteThomson is using the latest high-definition technology is being used to shoot new hotel and resort videos for its website.

TUI northern Europe new media director Graham Donoghue said online videos are playing an increasingly important role in selling holidays on the multiple’s site.

With the new high-definition videos due to go live in the next six weeks, Thomson already has more than 2,000 videos that were seen by 1.5 million people in January alone.

Donoghue added Thomson also posts its videos on Google, Yahoo and YouTube, which takes the total number of videos viewed last month to more than two million.

High-definition technology has a much greater resolution and picture quality than standard technology and they can be shot in widescreen to fill the whole computer screen.

Donoghue said the videos are inexpensive to shoot because production teams can go out to a resort and film videos for all Thomson hotels in that region in one go. The videos can then be used by the whole northern Europe division.
