STB honours ex-Glasgow tourism chairman


THE Scottish Tourist Board has awarded Pat Lally, former chairman of Greater Glasgow and Clyde Valley Tourist Board, the Silver Thistle for Outstanding Achievement for his 33-year contribution to the City of Glasgow. There were 14 other winners of the eighth Scottish Thistle Awards, held at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre by Alasdair Morrison, minister for the Highlands and Islands and Gaelic.



The awards were Manager of the Year, James Thomson of The Witchery by the Castle and Tower Restaurant; Scotland Year Round, The Port Charlotte Hotel, Isle of Islay; Small Business Marketing Initiative, the Museum of Flight, East Lothian; Marketing Initiative, Stakis Hotels (Stakis Timshare); Business Tourism Initiative, Meeting Makers Ltd, Glasgow; Small Company Training, Garvock House Hotel, Dunfermline; Large Company Training, Rufflets Country House, St Andrews; Tourism for All, Fhuarain Forest Cottages and Lazy Duck Hostel, Nethybridge; Tourism and the Environment, Shetland Wildlife Tours; Cultural Tourism, Celoas – The Gaelic Arts Agency/Proiseact Nan Ealan; Tourism and the Media, Julie Davidson; Natural Cooking of Scotland, Cargill’s Restaurant, Blairgowrie; Customer Care, Rufflets Country House; and Area Tourism Initiative, The 1999 Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.
