Hilton outlines 10-year plan for UK and Ireland growth – 12 June 2007

Hilton Hotels Corporation plans to double its UK and Ireland estate from 75 hotels to 150 in the next 10 years.

The move is part of a wider strategy to add 1,000 hotels outside of North America over the period.

The hotels group has signed a deal with Somerston Hotels UK Limited, which operates 33 hotels in the UK, mostly under the Express by Holiday Inn brand, to introduce 25 new hotels under its mid-market Hampton by Hilton brand in the next five years. It also aims to grow its Hilton Garden Inn, Doubletree by Hilton, and its luxury Conrad and Waldorf Astoria brands in the region.

Hilton president for UK and Ireland Simon Vincent, who joined the chain six months ago from Opodo Group, where he was CEO, said: “A lot of our focus will be bringing the different brands into the international market.

“The UK has established Hilton brand hotels and there are two Conrad Hotels in Ireland. There are a lot of growth opportunities.”

Last week the group announced it had signed a development alliance with London & Regional Properties that would see 15 hotels built in the UK over the next five years, including the first appearance of the Hampton by Hilton brand.
