Canada operators are adding off-piste ski experiences this winter in response to demand for adventure.
Mark Warner has brochured outside Europe for the first time featuring two resorts in Canada, including the option of heliskiing at Revelstoke in the Canadian Rockies.
Developments in equipment and design mean heliskiing is no longer the preserve of expert skiers, said Mark Warner head of product Giles Helbert.
“Heliskiing is within the reach of intermediate skiers and we’re finding there is an ever-increasing demand for this type of activity.
“We’re delighted to be adding Revelstoke to our programme, the facilities and expertise there are second to none.”
A week at the five-star Coast Hillcrest Hotel, including two days of heliskiing, starts at £1,726 per person including flights.
Inghams is also seeing demand for heliskiing in Canada.
“More people are looking for that ultimate ski experience,” said a spokesperson. “If you’re a good intermediate skier you can easily go heliskiing in Canada.”
The operator’s brochure features two pre-bookable off-piste experiences, a heliski package with guide at Panorama, and at Fernie, Snow Cat Transport can take skiers and snowboarders to off-piste areas.
Heliskiing costs £367 per person per day including helicopter flights, three descents, ski rental, safety briefing, picnic lunch and certificate.
For snow-based exhilaration of a different kind, Windows on the Wild has introduced a nine-night package in the Yukon this winter, with six days’ dog sledding and two nights at the luxury Inn on the Lake lodge, starting from £2,005, per person including flights.
