FIRST CHOICE SHARES
First Choice’s share price has risen sharply on speculation that the company will tie up a deal with a European operator. As Travel Weekly went to press shares closed at 124.5p but company sources said this was due to senior management convincing analysts about its 1999 performance at a series of meetings.
GOING PLACES LOSSES
Going Places staff will be told next Friday who has been axed as part of the streamlining of the operation. Around 80 staff are expected to go, some in senior positions.
BA APPOINTS HEYWOOD
British Airways has appointed Ian Heywood as general manager field sales, responsible for business agents and small-medium corporate clients. He was previously BA’s divisional sales manager London and the South.
JEA COMMISSION HIKE
Jersey European Airways is offering increased commission on sales of flights from Northern Ireland. The airline has increased payments from 9% to 10% for bookings and travel up to January 31.
BRAATHENS AXES LINK
Braathens is understood to be axing the last UK flights of its subsidiary Braathens Malmo. Double-daily London City-Malmo flights are due to end on January 10. Their end follows the axing of London City’s Stockholm and Gothenburg services over the last year.
RILEY TAKES WEB ROLE
Francis Riley, head of supplier management at Air Miles, is leaving at the end of the year to take up a senior position at a new company Perks4U.com.
