Explore launches new programme for eclipses

Explore is hoping to make the most of the two sun eclipses due this year and next with the launch of a new programme.

The Astronomy and Eclipse Tours programme is currently on sale and offers a total of 26 tours centred around two total eclipses of the sun, the first on August 1 this year and the second on July 22 2009.

Explore managing director Ashley Toft said 11 tours in China, Kyrgystan, Russia and Uzbekistan are on sales for this year’s eclipse with the trips chosen to take best advantage of the path of the eclipse and expected weather conditions.

A further 15 tours in China and Japan have been planned for the 2009 eclipse which will also be the longest to take place in a century.

Toft said: “A total solar eclipse is one of nature’s most spectacular and magical events.

“This year Explore celebrates its tenth year of running bespoke eclipse tours in combination with other sightseeing highlights and during that time, we have built up exceptional knowledge in this area, ensuring the eclipse-viewing takes place in an optimum and sometimes exclusive location.”

Prices for the 2008 eclipse lead in at £2,295 for the Imperial Journey and Eclipse trip to China and includes flights, transfers and 17-nights hotel, camping and sleeper train accommodation with some meals.
