British travellers to Pakistan have been urged to be “extra vigilant” after a plot for a terrorist attack on Islamabad airport was uncovered.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued an alert yesterday in updated travel advice.
“The Pakistani authorities are investigating reports of planning for a potential terrorist attack at Benazir Bhutto international airport in Islamabad and have increased security at the airport,” the FCO said.
“You may encounter further security checks while using the airport; you should exercise caution, be extra vigilant and keep a low profile.”
Benazir Bhutto is the third largest airport in Pakistan, serving the capital of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and is the hub for Pakistan International Airlines.
