Honeymooners are opting for activity based adventure holidays instead of traditional two week breaks, research from Teletext has shown.
Out of the 2,000 couples who took part in the survey, four in five did not take a foreign beach holiday. A total of 32% took a UK holiday, 15% chose a city break, 9% took an adventure holiday and 3% opted for a cruise.
Over half of those surveyed agreed that a traditional honeymoon in the sun is old fashioned.
The average honeymoon costs £2,580, the survey found. Scots were the most lavish couples spending £2879.08 on their trip.
Marketing director at Teletext Holidays Ash Makkar said: “Our research shows that honeymooners are willing to spend more money in order to make their trip of a lifetime just that, and are increasingly asking wedding guests to contribute to their holiday rather than give them household items.”
