Trade association the Hospitality Financial and Technology Professionals (HFTP) is forming a Blockchain Technology Task Force to prepare for the impact of the emerging technology.
The task force will be chaired by Lyle Worthington, CHTP, chief information officer of The Student Hotel and HFTP global president.
Frank Wolfe, chief executive of HFTP, said: “Blockchain technology has been predicted to have the greatest impact on the future of the world economy.
“As the industry’s non-profit brain trust on finance and technology, it is incumbent on us to address the issue before blockchain reaches maturity and assembling a task force is the first step.”
Members of HKTP were given an introduction to blockchain at the organisation’s 45th Hospitality Industry Technology Exposition and Conference (HITEC) at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre in Toronto.
Blockchain is a decentralised leger of data that facilitates secure online transactions. It’s best known today for being behind the crypto-currency Bitcoin.
