Maria Whiteman to leave Travel 2

Travel 2 managing director Maria Whiteman is to leave the company after two and a half years.

Whiteman has resigned from her role and will officially leave the Stella Travel Services-owned company at the end of November. Staff were told the news today.

She confirmed: “The job that I am doing today is very different to the one that I came in to do over two years ago. Stella has grown and I have not got the same accountability. The commute was also difficult for me.

“For me it’s the right thing to do and I want to look at new opportunities, but it will be really sad to leave. We have a great team and it will also be sad to leave the supplier relationships.”

Stella Travel Services would not comment on the news. It is understood the move comes amid plans for a senior management restructure of Stella Travel Services UK.

Travel 2 was bought by S8 – now the Stella group – in December 2006. In August it rebranded from Travel 2/ Travel 4 to Travel 2.

Whiteman’s departure follows the decision by Stella commercial and product director Stephen Rhodes, who also worked as Travel 2 acting managing director while Whiteman was on maternity leave, to leave earlier this month.

Stella Travel Service’s UK managing director Andrew Laurie is also leaving the UK business before the end of the year. The UK now comes under the remit of new managing director Europe Shane Flynn.
