UNIJET joint managing director Terry Brown has quit the operator 18 months early after steering the company through its integration with First Choice.
Brown will officially leave at the end of the year but has already relinquished day-to-day duties at the Haywards Heath-based operator.
Nigel Jenkins, who with Brown co-founded Unijet in 1981, will become sole MD. Overseas director Len Mooney has been appointed commercial director.
The move is expected to be followed by changes at First Choice.
Brown said: “There has been a transitional period with the aim of centralising certain functions within First Choice which has now been completed. I did not feel there was a long-term position for me and thought now was the right time to leave.”
Brown signed a three-year contract with First Choice in June last year when the Crawley operator acquired Unijet for £110m. It earned both him and Jenkins 4m shares each – then worth around £6.4m – in the enlarged group. Brown has since sold about 25% of his stake.
Brown now plans to turn his attention to business travel agency Gemini Global, in which he took a 50% stake earlier this year.
