The delivery of MSC Cruises’ new vessel MSC Seaview has been delayed, forcing the line to cancel its christening in Rome.
MSC Seaview will now be christened in Genoa, Italy, on June 9 – a week later than originally planned.
The ship will now be delivered on June 4.
A short paying passenger cruise from June 7 to 10 has also been cancelled as a result of the delay.
Nearly 4,000 shipyard workers are said to be working “24/7 around the clock to finish the ship” for its inaugural season, the line said in a statement.
It also added that the ship requires “a few extra days of final fitting”.
A MSC Cruises’ spokesperson said: “This additional time is necessary to fully ready MSC Seaview and – most importantly – to ensure she is fit to provide the holiday experience guests have come to expect from MSC Cruises.”
