Newly refurbished Independence of the Seas arrives in Southampton

Royal Caribbean’s Independence of the Seas has arrived in Southampton following a multi-million pound makeover.

The 3,858 passenger ship will be based in Southampton and sail European itineraries from May to November.

The first guests will be welcomed on May 15 when she will embark on a two-night cruise to Paris.

The ship features new activities including a virtual reality bungy trampoline, Skypad, Planet Z Laser tag, Perfect Storm water slides and escape room game Puzzle Break.

Four of the top 10 features suggested by agents through a competition run with Travel Weekly have been included on the redesigned ship, including Skypad.

Managing director, Royal Caribbean International UK and Ireland, Ben Bouldin said: “Holiday time is precious, and travellers today have higher expectations and more options than ever before.

“We don’t just want to meet these expectations, but smash them and redefine how to holiday. From our largest yet hibachi restaurant to a virtual reality bungee trampoline experience, Independence of the Seas is set to be the most spectacular ship sailing out of Southampton this coming season.”
