Southampton airport announces new managing director

Neil Garwood is stepping up at Southampton airport to succeed Dave Lees as managing director.

The change comes on June 1 when Lees leaves to become chief executive of Bristol airport, a role he takes up in August.

Garwood has been at Southampton airport for almost eight years, most recently as head of operations.

Derek Provan, chief executive of owner AGS Airports which also runs Glasgow and Aberdeen airports, said: “During his eight year career at Southampton airport, Neil has held a series of senior positions.

“He takes on the leadership of what is a hugely dedicated and committed team who are focused on achieving even further success for Southampton airport.”

The airport employs almost 1,000 staff and last year handled a record 2.1 million passengers.

Garwood said: “I am taking over at what is a very exciting time for the airport and I am looking forward to working with the great team here to ensure we continue to deliver for our passengers and the region.”
