Tunisia is being targeted for further growth by Swiss chain Movenpick Hotels & Resorts with the takeover of a contemporary property in the coastal city of Sfax.
The firm has signed an agreement manage the Plaza Sfax & Spa Hotel, in a city centre location close to the historic Medina.
The 89-room hotel will become the Swiss hospitality group’s fourth property in Tunisia when it opens as the Movenpick Hotel Sfax later this year.
The company also operates two hotels in Tunis and one in Sousse.
Chief development officer Andrew Langdon said: “This upcoming addition to our Tunisia portfolio will expand our regional footprint, solidifying our presence in a new destination with high growth potential.
“Sfax is not only a historic city with Mediterranean charm, but an up-and-coming business and trading centre where upscale hotel supply is relatively limited and corporate demand is strong.
“Operating a property in a central location and with a raft of high-quality facilities will enable us to capitalise on these favourable market conditions.”
