Virgin Trains cuts fares to attract corporate sales

VIRGIN Trains has knocked 10% off the price of London to Manchester tickets to encourage more business travellers to take up the service.

The rail operator has launched a carnet of 10 tickets for the price of nine, called Take 10, which can be used by several members of one company.

The offer is available for first class, Virgin Business and standard open tickets, and are valid for three months.

The purchase of Take 10 is currently only available through five outlets, Hogg Robinson in Manchester and Bristol, Keyline Travel in Manchester, Carlson Wagonlit Travel in Hemel Hempsted and Business Express, the direct-booking rail ticket service.

A Virgin Trains spokesman said the ticket is being trialled for two months and, if successful, will be rolled out to other travel agency outlets and on other Virgin Trains routes. “The ticket is aimed at business travellers making regular trips fromManchester, Stockport, Wilmslow, Macclesfield and Stoke-on-Trent toLondon,” he said.

“It means travellers don’t have to worry about dashing off to buy a ticket in advance or queuing on the day.

“For companies who have more than one employee who travels, Take 10 can be used by anyone in the company.”
