Shearings prepares for 10 redundancies

Shearings Holidays is preparing to make 10 members of staff redundant as part of a restructure.

Managing director of holidays Graham Rogers said two regional sales managers and eight staff with operational and administrative roles at the Miry Lane headquarters are undergoing a 30-day consultation period.

He added the losses announced last week have come about as the coach specialist restructures its commercial functions under new commercial director Caroline Brown.

The changes will see the product department split into a UK division, managed by Matthew Herbert; European, overseen by Sophie Cann; and business development – managing air, cruise and rail – led by Patricia Birmingham.

Marketing functions have been brought together under marketing manager Peter Modral, while sales manager Mike Bowers for Wallace Arnold (which merged with Shearings in January 2005) will take on the same role at Shearings.

All key accounts and trade activities will now be managed centrally from the operator’s head offices in Wigan.

Rogers said: “Shearings is continuing to perform well in a difficult economic climate.

“These changes reflect an increased focus on our core commercial business units, and are designed to strengthen the head office structure to take us forward.”

He added the operator will continue to focus on working with the trade following the changes.
