FCO reviews advice on travel to Indonesia

The Foreign Office (FCO) has reviewed and reissued its advice on travel to Indonesia following last Friday’s terrorist attacks in the capital Jakarta.

At least nine people died and more than 50 were injured in explosions at the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott hotels in the Mega Kuningan district of the city.

The FCO has said visitors should avoid the Mega Kuningan district for the time being, but has not changed its overall level of advice on travel to the country.

Indonesia has been hit by repeated terrorist attacks including the Bali bombings of 2002 and 2005.

Meanwhile, a number of cases of swine flu have been confirmed in the country. The Indonesian Ministry of Health has said all passengers arriving from H1N1-affected countries will be asked to undergo medical screening, and will be required to wear a face mask for a three-day incubation period.

Travellers should monitor indonesianembassy.org.uk for any measures the Indonesian government may introduce.
