A new Spanish winter sports option is being opened up to British skiers and snowboarders with the introduction of flights from Stansted.
Jet2.com is to run a weekly seasonal service starting before Christmas to the ancient city of Lleida in the north eastern region of Catalonia in land from Barcelona.
The Sunday departures from December 23 will provide capacity of 2,500 seats each way for three months, giving access to Catalonia’s lesser known winter attractions.
Activities in the Catalan Pyrenees include snowmobiling, dog-sledding, helisking, snow-shoe excusrions and hot air balloon trips
Lleida celebrates the 40th anniversary of the most famous cross-country skiing race in Spain, the Marxa Beret, on February 3. The international event brings together more than 1,000 participants, attracting sporting enthusiasts and spectators.
The race takes place in Pla de Beret, an area which provides slopes for all levels including a 42km race for expert skiers, a 21km race for those at intermediate level and a smaller 10km race for novices.
