ABTA monitors Bali terror threat situation

ABTA is urging its members to monitor Foreign Office advice as confusion continues over a possible terrorist threat in Bali.

The US Embassy in Indonesia was reported to have quoted on its website a warning from the island’s governor that there was an “indication” of a terrorist attack planned for tonight.

However, the BBC is now reporting that a spokesman for the governor has told the Reuters news agency that no such statement was made.

ABTA said its destination services team was monitoring the situation closely, and recommended that travel companies dealing with concerned customers or relatives should monitor FCO advice to keep abreast of the latest developments.

The FCO site currently states that there remains a high threat of terrorism across Indonesia following bombings in Bali in 2002 and 2005 and an attack earlier this year in Jakarta.

ABTA members can also sign up to a news alert service from the association by emailing destinations@abta.co.uk.
