Travel Weekly received a huge volume of entries for the Innovation in Travel Award, part of the Globe Travel Awards.
The impressive response proves travel companies are striving to remain competitive and devise new ways of doing business despite the economic downturn.
A high-profile judging panel got together at London’s Durrants Hotel to compile a shortlist for the award sponsored by Cheapflights.
The shortlist of potential winners is easyJetcare on Twitter, MyThomson personalised web pages, First Choice Splash Resorts, HolidayTaxis interactive ski maps, Joobili, Gliider and Thomson Airways? for its inflight safety video.
TW Group chief executive Simon Ferguson, who led the judging, said: “The quality of entries this year shows that innovation continues to be a driving force in the travel industry despite tough trading conditions. The judges’ tasks were made particularly difficult as the entries consisted of such a variety of ideas but the final list showcases the diversity of the industry.”
Last year’s recipient of the Innovation in Travel Award was the British Airways’ iphone application.
Agents and suppliers will honour the winners at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on January 19.
