Geographical location: stress that Bali, Lombok and Bintan are a long way from East Timor – where violent demonstrations have occurred due to the recent elections – and the three islands have been unaffected by Indonesia’s current political problems.
Overland tours: sell an overland tour of Java to repeat visitors or first-timers keen to see a lot of the country. British Airways Holidays offers an eight-night tour covering the island’s main cultural and geographical attractions which costs from £1,065 including a final three nights in Bali.
Excellent room rates: persuade clients to take advantage of the low hotel rates in Bali by upgrading their room or switching to a better standard of hotel.
Flight upgrade: if clients fly with Garuda, they can upgrade to the airline’s Premium Economy service which offers business-class seating with personal videos and an enhanced economy-class meal service. The upgrade costs an extra £200-£250 for a return ticket from London.
Twin-centre package: try to sell Bali and Lombok as a twin-centre package which may encourage clients to extend their holiday. The vast majority of operators offer Bali/Lombok combinations.
