GTTRC and IIPT honour Nepalese resilience

The Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council (GTTRC) ended the first Asian Resilience Summit in Kathmandu with a series of awards presented jointly with the Institute for International Peace through Tourism (IIPT).

The Resilient Tourism Community Award went to Nepalese company 3 Sisters P which offers rural women training in adventure tourism and runs an apprenticeship programme which has benefited more than 1,000 women.

Mohan Krishna Sapkota, secretary of the Nepal Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation presented the award to Dicky and Nicky Karki of 3 Sisters P.

The Resilient Tourism Business Award went to hotel chain KGH Group of Nepal, which operates seven eco-friendly hotels, with the award presented to Karna Sakya of KGH.

The Change Maker in Tourism Award went to Intrepid Group co-founder Darrel Wade who, with the Intrepid team on the ground in Nepal, worked on the recovery effort following the 2015 earthquake.

And the Award for Resilience Efforts through Cultural Diversity went to two organisations – the Community Homestay Network of Nepal, part of the Royal Mountain Group of companies owned by Shiva Dhakal, and Wild Guanabana of Egypt, an organisation founded by Omar Samra.

The winners were chosen from among 12 finalists and more than 40 nominees by a panel of international judges

Forthcoming GTTRC events include an African Resilience Summit in Johannesburg on July 24 and the Global Resilience Summit in London on November 7.
