Barrhead Travel is to roll out its own-brand package holidays in a bid to plug the gap left by the collapse of Globespan and Seguro.
The Scottish agency had already announced plans to run flights over the summer to destinations including Spain and Majorca, and has now revealed plans to extend the service to another six destinations. Flights will be offered from Aberdeen airport as well as Glasgow.
Sharon Munro, chief executive of Barrhead Travel, said: “The logical next step for Barrhead Travel was to develop its own package holiday programme. With our lower overheads and costs, and with our ability to cut out the conventional tour operator, we can pass savings onto our customers.”
Munro said the agency had been planning the tour operation “painstakingly” for almost a year.
She added: “The number of holidays available in 2010 will certainly be much lower than in previous years. Our summer programme will help fill that gap.”
For the initial phase of the programe, Barrhead has chartered aircraft from the British Airways CityFlyer fleet, which will operate weekly throughout the summer from Glasgow airport. The programme will run from late May to mid September with flights to Palma, Majorca and Barcelona.
