Operator View: child-friendly services

We asked three seat-only specialists to recommend a child friendly airline for three different routes. Here’s what they told us:

FLORIDA

Claire Trevis, aviation director, Unijet, recommends Virgin Atlantic.

“We think Virgin offers the sort of service families want.

“The kids’ packs are fantastic and the on-board product includes computer games and children’s films to keep them thoroughly entertained.”

Trevis pointed out that there is little difference between Virgin and its rivals in terms of on-board service, but Virgin has established a reputation for catering for families.

AUSTRALIA

David Gibbs, air product director, Travel 2, recommends Singapore Airlines.

“If you are cooped up with children on a flight for a long time I think the on-board entertainment is really important and for this I would recommend Singapore Airlines.

“The airline has seat-back videos with kids’ computer games which are a big help. Although other airlines are introducing these they are not available on all flights to Australia.”

EUROPEAN

Katharine Dunwoodie, air product manager, Hamilton, Travel recommends Lufthansa.

“It is excellent in catering for the needs of different ages of children. It provides infant and children’s meals, toys for children of different age groups, children’s and teenage magazines and baby-changing facilities in the toilets,” said Dunwoodie.

“It also has a Junior Club where members receive mail and birthday presents.”
