Ryanair settles screen scraping lawsuit with Expedia

Ryanair has settled lawsuits with Expedia over alleged screen scraping.

The airline had filed a suit more than two years ago against the online giant in Ireland and the United States, accusing it of illegally screen scraping its website and selling flights at a mark-up.

The suit was settled in Washington state in early August, according to Skift.

Expedia Group spokesperson Sarah Waffle Gavin confirmed on Tuesday “the Irish action was part of the settlement and is in the process of being dismissed as well.”

Details of the settlement remain unknown but it appears Expedia’s websites do not now feature Ryanair flights.

Ryanair had claimed the screen scraping violated the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act by infringing copyright and increasing customer costs.

But in the US Expedia argued the law does not give standing to foreign-based airlines.

Ryanair is still pursuing lawsuits across Europe.
