Jersey calls on airlines to help revive market

JERSEY Travel Service is holding talks with airlines in a bid to reduce flight prices and kick-start the sluggish holiday market to the Channel Islands.

After another tough year for both Jersey and Guernsey, the operator is looking to make the destinations more competitive with Mediterranean resorts.

It is hoping to negotiate savings of 15%-20% on flights over the winter programme.

Product manager Jo-Ann Canevali, launching its year-round 2000 brochure, said deals with airlines are close to being finalised. “We want to promote the Channel Islands and need to make it more competitive,” she said.

“When you compare it with the cheap European destinations it is difficult to justify the prices. We are hoping to negotiate good rates and stimulate the winter market.”

In its new programme, Jersey Travel Service is featuring an all-inclusive option for the first time at the three-star Hotel de la Plage. Prices start at £463 per person for seven nights.

In Guernsey, camping holidays have been included after a successful trial in Jersey this year. Special offers include free child places on all self-catering accommodation and at selected hotels. The offer, designed to boost the family market, is available on holidays booked before February 29. Child prices have been cut by £24.
