Kenya predicts 10% tourist bounce thanks to royal engagement

The Kenya Tourist Board is predicting a 10% boost in visitors next year following today’s announcement of the engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton.

The couple got engaged last month during a private trip to the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, a sanctuary located in the foothills of the Mount Kenya.

The tourist board is now confident that the positive coverage of the engagement will ensure Kenya is in the spotlight for the forthcoming months, and reaps the benefits accordingly.

Angie Sloan, the director of the Kenya Tourist Board, said: “For a country such as Kenya which relies heavily on tourism, this will create worldwide publicity and will significantly enhance the profile as a romantic holiday destination.

“The engagement is the biggest news of the year; the fact that it was Kenya where William decided to do it is fantastic.”

Kuoni has been the first of the operator’s to cash in on the news having put together a selection of romantic Kenyan holidays for the market.

The operator is offering a four-night stay at the five-star Mara Bushtops in Kenya for £2,296 per person including flights transfers and all meals while seven nights at the five-star Msambweni Beach House and Private Villas is based from £2,100 per person, also including flights and private transfers.

The couple announced their engagement earlier today having been going out for eight years. They first met at university in St Andrews.
