January Sales Watch 2011: holiday sales data from GfK

GfK Ascent logoThe startling year-on-year rise in sales in the first week of January should not be taken at face value as the same week last year saw heavy snow hit the high street. More telling is the season-to-date rise of 4%.

At the same time a year ago, sales were down 6%. The biggest volume growth is in short-haul holidays, up 10% year on year, and the big winner is Spain.
