Faulty valve forces unscheduled landing in Fiji for Qantas Jumbo

A Qantas Boeing 747 had to make an unscheduled landing in Fiji due to a fault with a fuel valve.

Crew on the aircraft flying from Australia to New York noticed the fuel valve glitch just after the aircraft passed Nadi Airport in Fiji and decided to make a priority landing to investigate, an airline spokeswoman said.

The majority of the passengers were put on another 747 aircraft this morning local time to continue their journey.

The in-flight problem is the latest in a string of technical issues to plague the airline since an engine fire on one of its Airbus A380s last November grounded its entire fleet of the superjumbo and led to an extensive engineering review of Roll-Royce Trent 900 engines.

Qantas said a week ago that it would resume flying its A380s on Australia-Los Angeles routes this month.
On Saturday, a Qantas 747 bound for Los Angeles suffered an engine failure as it was about to take off from Sydney.
