Blast kills passengers at Moscow airport

An explosion at Moscow’s busiest airport, Demodedovo, has killed at least 31 people and injured many more.

Early reports suggest a suicide bomber in the baggage reclaim area of the international arrivals hall may be responsible for the blast.

A Russian news agency said up to 130 people could be injured.

British Midland International have confirmed that flight BD891 landed in Moscow at 13.36 UK time, 16.36 Moscow time, around four minutes after the attack.

British Airways flies daily to Moscow Demodedovo from Heathrow, as does BMI.

The airport is the base of Russian carrier Transaero, which also flies daily to Moscow from Heathrow, and a hub for S7 Airlines. It is also used by Emirates, Lufthansa, Swiss and Qatar Airways.

Demodedovo is one of three airports in the city. Russian flag carrier Aeroflot operates from Sheremetyevo.
