Guernsey gains Southampton flights boost

Flights to Guernsey from Southampton airport are being stepped up over the summer by Channel Islands airline Blue Islands.

The Flybe franchise partner is adding 78 additional flights to the island.

The expanded schedule runs between June 29 and September 26 on top of 64 fights a week on the route.

The additional capacity will be offered on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays.

The airline is also offering a £36 anytime return rail fare from London Waterloo to connect to flights at Southampton airport.

Chief executive Rob Veron said: “Blue Islands is focussed on enriching islanders’ travel options which we believe are essential to the wellbeing and livelihood of our communities.

“We are proud to have operated our Guernsey–Southampton service since 2007 serving over 800,000 passengers including leisure and business travellers, visitors to our island and sporting customers, as well as providing a reliable, high-frequency service for those travelling for essential medical purposes.

“As well as travelling to the south coast, customers are increasingly choosing Guernsey–Southampton services for connections to UK and European destinations across the wider Flybe network.

“Additional Southampton flights not only provide greater options for travel to central London and opportunities for onward UK and European connections via Southampton Airport, they enable added convenience and flexibility for those travelling to Southampton to access health services.”

Airport managing director Neil Garwood added: “Regional connectivity is something that we pride ourselves in.

“We welcome Blue Island’s enhanced summer schedule which will provide holidaymakers, businesses, students, families and those in need of essential healthcare on the mainland with further flexibility when travelling between Southampton and the island.”
