Flybe aircraft makes emergency landing

A Flybe Bombardier Q400 aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing after a wheel fell off.

An investigation has been launched into the incident yesterday after the aircraft lost a wheel during take-off from Exeter airport.

Passengers reported seeing “little sparks” coming from the wheel and a “large piece of metal” protruding from the undercarriage. The pilot raised the alarm after a wheel underneath the wing came off during retraction.

The 39 passengers and four crew on board the flight to Newcastle escaped serious injury.
