Tui Travel has appointed Jane Ashton as director of group sustainable development as the operator looks to “continue to lead the industry” in the area.
Ashton has had responsibility for sustainable development for the last three years leading a team across the Tui Travel UK and First Choice divisions.
Tui said this has helped it “achieve a significant reduction in carbon emissions from airlines and operations throughout the group, resulting in Tui Travel ranking 6th in the FTSE 350 for its approach to carbon disclosure in 2010”.
“It is our aim to build on TUI Travel’s sustainable development achievements and to continue to lead the industry with our approach to sustainability,” said Peter Long, chief executive. “I know Jane will continue to champion this in her new role.”
Tui’s work to meet sustainability targets has seen it being listed in the FTSE4Good Index for meeting social, environmental and governance standards.
Ashton was honoured with a Contribution to Sustainable Tourism Award in the 2010 Shine Awards. In her new role she will report into Christian Cull, Tui UK communications director and Jacky Simmonds, group HR director, who reports on sustainable development to the Group Management Board.
