Miles Morgan Travel launches second Titanic memorial cruise

Miles Morgan Travel has chartered Royal Caribbean Cruise Line’s Azamara Journey to launch a second Titanic memorial cruise.

The 694-passenger ship will sail out of New York on April 10, 2012, on an eight-night cruise to mark the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic.

It will join the first Titanic Memorial Cruise, on Fred Olsen Cruise Line’s 1,309-passenger Balmoral, at the site of the original ship’s sinking for a memorial service.

The launch follows last October’s sell-out of the original cruise, which sails out of Southampton on April 8 next year. This included 350 passengers from the US. The cruise already has a 50-strong waiting list.

Managing director Miles Morgan said: “We are hoping to sell out Azamara Journey by the autumn. We are looking for 340 couples to fill the ship and we have travel agents worldwide selling the ship.”

The ship took 10 bookings on its first day of going on sale before putting out any advertisements.

It will call at Halifax, Nova Scotia, which became the final resting place of many of the original Titanic’s unclaimed victims. Passengers will have the option to visit Fairview Lawn Cemetery where victims of the sinking are buried.

Prices start at $4,725 per person for double occupancy, while suites, which include English butler service and a private portrait sitting, start at $6,750.
