Just a Drop is urging the trade to join its ‘Just a Haircut’ challenge to raise money for remote communities worldwide to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
The water charity is challenging people to brave the clippers and film their ‘DIY hair trim’ while stuck at home during the lockdown this weekend.
Just a Drop has championed proper handwashing with soap since it was set up by World Travel Market founder Fiona Jeffery in 1998 by providing hygiene training and access to safe water and soap to prevent the spread of disease in communities in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
“Handwashing with soap is the first line of defence against the spread of Covid-19 so our work is ramping up to ensure that we can reach more communities and support them in the battle against coronavirus,” said the charity, which also works to provide safe water supplies near to where people live and sanitation in remote regions.
Its #LockdownLocks fun challenge invites people to cut their hair, film it and take photos, and then share these on social media by tagging @JustaDrop on Twitter or @JustaDrop on Facebook and nominate three friends to do the same.
It is asking fundraisers to donate the usual cost of a haircut through the charity’s JustGiving page.
