Channel Islands specialist starts issuing cash refunds

Channel Islands operator Airways Holidays has started issuing cash refunds to agents for cancelled holidays due to the impact of coronavirus.

Agents are also being offered the chance to make free holiday amendments.

The operator, which carries more than 35,000 passengers a year, initially offered credit refunds due to the volume of bookings until it was in the position to process cash refunds.

Refunds will be processed in a “timely manner” and the policy will be applied to future bookings affected by the pandemic.

Robert Mackenzie, managing director of parent company C I Group, said: “As a company, we feel that this is the right ting to do for our partners so they are able to refund their clients, meaning relationships remain strong in the supplier chain.

“We know that this is a difficult time for the industry and we want to support agents by making the process as simple and efficient as possible at a time when resources are stretched.”

He added: “This has been a challenging time and our team has been working tirelessly. We are pleased to have now reached a stage where we can offer a full cash refund on those bookings where we have received supplier costs in full.”

Mackenzie said: “We hope this reassurance means that our partners and their clients will come back to book with us again, in their own time, when consumer confidence returns.

“This may be for later this year or even 2021 which is already on sale to offer more flexibilty and choice.”
