The lure of a career in the travel industry remains as strong as ever, figures from the new recruitment Web site, www.totaljobs.com, reveal.
Launched officially on January 17 this year by Travel Weekly’s parent company Reed Business Information, totaljobs is already one of the biggest general jobs sites on the Internet with details of around 20,000 jobs listed across 13 sectors at any one time. An analysis of its performance over the first month shows that the site received 3m page impressions, with travel proving to be the third most popular section among on-line job seekers, after Information Technology and human resources.
In that time 24,494 searches were made in the travel sector, compared with 75,284 in IT, 33,285 in human resources and 12,298 in catering.
Publishing director Rob Perkins said that while the IT category is predictably the most popular – probably because IT professionals are used to using the Web as a job search tool – the fact that travel is number three in the league is significant. “There is obviously a great deal of interest and movement in the travel sector at the moment,” said Perkins.
Travel jobs advertised on the site range from junior positions to senior management across all areas of the industry including airlines, tour operators and travel agencies, and can be searched according to region or job type. To date, the jobs are UK-based but Perkins says in future, the site will include some international posts.
Features on totaljobs include a database where jobseekers can register their CVs and a facility to e-mail users details of jobs in an specified area.
“It’s a quicker, slicker way to find a job. You tap in what you’re looking for and within minutes you can send your CV to the employer,” said Perkins.
There are also plans to add a salary checker carrying average pay rates for particular jobs.
