Travel & Tourism Resilience Council to host free one-day virtual summit

The Global Travel and Tourism Resilience Council is to hold a full-day virtual summit featuring a range of sessions focused on the industry’s recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic.

The free Re-engineering Readiness summit will take place from 10.30-19.30 BST on Tuesday, May 26. It will feature more than 60 speakers representing travel and hospitality, national governments and NGOs and associated industries such as finance, communications, technology and healthcare.

Sessions will include presentations and panel discussions with speakers sharing insights and predictions on industry preparedness, recovery, and resilience in light of the crisis.

The keynote address will be made by Dr Harold Vogel, author of The Economics of Travel, chief executive of Vogel Capital Management and adjunct professor at New York’s Columbia University.

Speakers from the industry include Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings chief executive Frank Del Rio, former Jumeirah Group chief executive Gerald Lawless, Natalie Kidd, chief operating officer of Intrepid Group and Jennifer Tombaugh, president of Tauck.

Government and association speakers will include Najib Balala, UNWTO executive council chairman, Jamaican tourism minister Edmund Bartlett and Taleb Rifai, former UNTWO secretary general and co-chair of the Resilience Council.

Other experts joining the line-up include representatives from McKinsey & Company, IBM, Global Rescue, iFree Group, Mabrian Technologies, DXC Technologies and Ingle International, in addition to Dr Lee Miles, professor of crisis & disaster management at Bournemouth University and NGOs from four Caribbean nations.

The Resilience Council is a network and forum for global governments and businesses, with a stated aim of bringing the public and private sectors together for the development of sustainable frameworks and to facilitate planning and preparation for crisis response, recovery and resilience issues.

It forms part of the portfolio of Travel Weekly owner Jacobs Media Group, whose chairman Clive Jacobs will open the event and join the speaker line-up.
