Universal Orlando announces new ‘Despicable Me’ attraction

Universal Orlando is to introduce 3D attraction Despicable Me to replace the Jimmy Neutron ride.

The attraction is based on the 2010 animated film starring Steve Carell and Russelll Brand. The ride promises to take visitors on a 3D digital adventure where they will meet characters from the film and take part in an interactive dance party.

“The Despicable Me attraction is the latest example of how we tap into pop culture’s most compelling stories and turn them into extraordinary theme park entertainment,” said Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative. “Audiences will be able to immerse themselves in the villain Gru’s world for many years to come.”

Meanwhile, the theme park is also to reanimate The Amazing Adventures of Spider-Man in 4K digital high definition – the highest HD resolution available.

The company said the new animation will allow guests to experience details they have never seen before.

Both will open in 2012. A Despicable Me sequel is due to be released in the US next year.
